Voice your pleasure (if you must)
but I will not write today.
Today I will not write, I’ll spend
my time (no currents, see, just
another source of [des- or in-] spite),
what’s the word? yes, listening
for the words I’ll write tomorrow
or later next week, when,
overwhelmed with a sadness
or sorrow, only verse will save my life,
(I’ll agree with this later next week,
or tomorrow), this borrowed shell for
this shivering go-round before I’m com-
pelled to inhabit a – again, what’s the word?
although, you know, it occurs to me that save
my life is a bit dramatic, (well, this from the poet’s
admonition that poets should write less, listen
more), but I’ll take this humpéd licence
listening delivers and run with it, now
where was I? Ah, yes, the subject of you.
